Import Friday – Dogfish Head Festina Pêche
Festina Pêche is a one of the newest Dogfish Head offerings in BC. Billed as a neo-Berliner Weisse this beer stands alone as the sole representative of the Berliner Weisse style in BC. I thought about posting about all about the Berliner Weisse style but Festina Pêche isn’t a suitable representation of the style as it stronger than an average Berliner Weisse contains fruit – peach, hence the name. They’ve also changed the recipe for this year by making it much less sour.
Cloudy and yellow, Festina Pêche starts off tart then sour with a soft wheat feeling and general fruitiness leading to a dry lingering tart finish. I found it to be a rather one-dimensional beer, and the peach doesn’t come through. The high carbonation level leads to a soda-like quality in the beer.
