BC Beer – Phillips Growhop (2010)
Growhop is Phillips’s attempt at a fresh/wet-hopped ale. The hops come from a local farmer on the Saanich Peninsula. I had this quite a while ago, while I don’t remember the details, I do remember the experience. Growhop is made using Chinook hops.
Growhop has a rather vivid aroma of mangoes, peaches, citrus, papaya and pine with a bready malt profile. On the taste the peach-mango flavours of the hops really come through, with some pine backing them up. This all leads to a bready malt finish. Growhop ends slightly dry with a lingering of piney hops.
That experience that I remembered was one of disappointment. After 9 Donkeys and Sartori I was expecting something better.
