BC Beer – Lighthouse Navigator
Alright, this is for you John.
There isn’t much in the way of doppelbocks in BC. Only three breweries brewed, and bottled, one in 2010: Phillips, Tree and now Lighthouse. Also, I can only think of one imported doppelbock, Paulander’s Salvator.
In a beer culture that prides itself on hoppy beers, sometimes you need a hugely malty beer to ground you and remind you what makes beer a beer. Navigator does this. And well. Large aroma of nutty malt, some caramel, toffee, chocolate and coffee with just a touch of dark fruits. When drank the chocolate flavours pick up and then subside to a coffee-like flavour on the end. This very smooth beer finishes evenly with a lingering flavour of chocolate.
The Doppelboat came from Flavourland and docked in my taste buds. Navigate your way to the nearest private liquor store and buy a bottle of Navigator.

Awesome post. “in a beer culture that prides itself on hoppy beers…..” I wish I was clever enough to say that in my post. haha
Got one in the fridge. Looking forward to it. The Shipwrecked was worthwhile, and this has the Dave seal of approval too.
